The support worker role is to provide opportunities that enable individuals to reach their own potential as valued members of their community. They are role models both for clients and the general community. Their job involves establishing and maintaining community links, supporting and encouraging skill development, working with individuals to maintain their homes and lifestyles. Support workers are also required to perform domestic duties including cleaning, meal preparation, and gardening as appropriate. Support workers are often required to work in isolation and therefore must be able to time manage and prioritise tasks. In a modern world it is a reality that paperwork is also a part of the support worker role.
