Setting The Standards [Availabile on Video or DVD]

The primary purpose of this video is for people with disabilities to understand the Standards. But it will also be an important training tool for any organisation that is involved in assisting people with disabilities.

There are some rules called the National Disability Standards. These 8 Standards make sure that services do a good job and that people with disabilities make their own choices about what they need.

All services that get money from the Government must follow these rules.

This video will help you to

  • understand the rules
  • helps you to talk to services about what you want
  • helps you to change things
  • helps you to talk to the service when you are not happy about something

This Video is dedicated to Luigi Romano who died suddenly on August 29th 2000. His spirit will live on through this production. He will continue to Set The Standards.

Supporting The Standards [Available on Video or DVD]

This video is about providing information for support staff that we hope will inform and advise, challenge and confront, confirm and encourage staff to provide the best possible support to the people they serve.

The National Disability Standards are for all people with disabilities supported by all staff in every type of setting.

The Standards were developed with some simple objectives in mind:

  • To ensure that all people with disabilities received services that met minimum standards.
  • To provide agencies with clear benchmarks and guidelines about providing services for people with disabilities.
  • To establish an agency culture that supported quality improvement.

A special note of thanks to Ruth Firstbrook for her commitment to people with disabilities, her willingness to share her knowledge and expertise, and for generously giving up her precious time to educate and enlighten those of us who continue to struggle to provide the very best support to people with disabilities.

A very warm thank you to the fantastic contribution made by Leveda clients and staff who participated in this video.
