In October 2001, a family forum was held where newer families had the opportunity to meet with some of the “first fleet”. While the number attending was not large, a lot of discussion was generated and much was shared and compared.
Following on from this, it was decided to develop a family questionnaire to find out whether those initial principles of individuality, and respect for and inclusion of family opinion had been maintained some 15 years after the service began.
The results of this report indicated that the organisation remained committed to its core values. The dreams of those first determined families to develop an organisation that embraced the principles of respect for the family and the person, subscribed to a collective sharing of information and ideas and celebrated the progress of an individual’s achievements, no matter how small, appeared to be well-established in the organisation’s psyche.
